I’d get the tri one if I was buying today. actually, I just started training for tris this year. last year, I started biking after many years of running (ok, jogging) & that’s when I got the friel cycling bible. probably either one would give you the friel training philosophy. I'’ve been trying to pay attention at least to the weekly hours and the overall base-build-peak periods. except, ok, I cheated on base: I rationalized that I was still pretty fit from the prior year, (2007 I trained about maybe 450-550 hours) even though I had taken the 8 weeks prior to end of december pretty light.
friel has a lot of information to offer to us “advanced-beginner” type athletes & the price of the book is much more justifiable than consulting with a coach. you’ll get a lot more serious about planning your training.
friel also has a website and some blogs, which i just discovered yesterday in the course of sending you those links. http://www2.trainingbible.com/joesblog/
ok, I wrote my own book here. have a good one m8.
