Cold… continued
My little cold developed into flue and died again. I’m feeling much better, but was unable to do my race on Saturday. Damn I hate that!! Such a cool race and I had to stay at home.
I’m still short of breath, so I reckon it will be at least another week before I can start training again. I’m definitely an addict. Hehe. I get all cranky just thinking about not being able to train… and it’s only been a week and a half since my last session.
Well to all you healthy folk, enjoy. I’ll be out there again shortly!

Cold
I got a cold on Friday and went to the doctor asap. He gave me a bowl full of meds! Something has to die… hopefully the virus. Normally I won’t run to the doctor this earlty, but I would be guttered if I won’t be able to do Saturday’s race. Hopefully I’ll be well enough to ride.

Build a bigger base buddy
I attended a Polar workshop held by Running Inn tonight. It’s incredible how much I learned! The presentation by Gideon Joubert was brilliant.
I was under the impression that I pretty much knew the proper way to train… Turns out I’ve been getting it all wrong. I now sit with an injured knee and feeling very fatigued.
Now have to force myself to recover and start with a clean slate and start working on my base. Also need to reconsider doing Saturday’s race and even perhaps my half-marathon next weekend.
I’ll share what I’ve learned in a proper article. Just need to get all my notes together.

Half-marathon here I come!
Ok, I decided (with a little persuasion) to do my first half-marathon on the 31th. I’ve already entered, so there’s no backing out now.
The race is being organized by my university’s alumni organization; the Tuks Alumni Legends 2008. What a dramatic name for race!? Reckon I’ll be singing that Chariot’s of Fire song in my head during the race. Hehehe. Tum-tum-tum tu-tuum-tuuum!!

Time to do a half-marathon, or not
I’ve been running since December and now reckon it’s time to do a half-marathon. Thing is, my May is already so packed with events, I wouldn’t be able to fit one in now. Furthermore, the Comrades (89km / 56 mile internationally renowned race) is being held on the 15th, so the entire SA running calendar grinds to a halt for this event.
It looks like I’ll have to postpone my half-marathon until 12th July for a race at the Voortrekker Monument. That one should be a goody.

Check out my race calendar for May
Man, I just fell in love with May. This is the line-up:
- 3 May: Forest2Falls Mountain Bike race (70km). Done!
- 10 May: Trail run at the Moreletta spring (10km). [Updated] Done!
- 17 May: Adventure race at Konka Camps, Magaliesburg (35km). [Updated] Done!
- 24 May: Mabalingwe Lion Man Mountain Bike race (80km). [Updated] I didn’t do this race. Had other commitments.
- 31 May: Tuks Alumni Legends 2008 half-marathon (21.1km) [Updated]
or Magalies Monster Mountain Bike race (75km).[Updated] Done!
Unfortunately June is considerably less exciting with only one scheduled event. Perhaps, I’ll be able to ad a few as May progress.

Ups and downs in Mozambique
I went for a trip to Mozambique last week. We’re building a house there and I had to take more material for the building contractor.
Unfortunately I ended up loosing my friends’ passports! Big mistake! It fell out of the car at a stop on the way there. Man, what an idiot!?
What was supposed to be a rather relaxing “business trip”, ended up being a bit of a stressful nightmare. I had difficulty with the officials, whom were set out to make life hard for you. The most unpleasant bunch of people you’ll ever meet. It took me four days to get a statement out of them, which merely states that I’ve lost the passports. In SA that takes around 30 mins. That’s Africa for you.
Luckily I did get my feet in the sand a few times. I did a 10km run on the beach and learned to surf! Quite pleased with that. Other than those two outings, my training programme took a nose dive and I didn’t get round to half the training I was planning on. I’ll try to get it back on track this week, but the sudden arrival of winter is not helping much.
